Lord of the Flies by William Golding – 1954

I was slightly hesitant about doing this one, just because it’s pretty grizzly, and I knew it would be. I even started (and mostly finished) a comic book page of Alice’s encounter with The Caterpillar in Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland, but at the last minute decided to go back to the pig’s head. It’s just one of my favorite images from a book, and I feel like I haven’t properly drawn it yet, so I took this opportunity to do so.

I don’t know that Lord of the Flies is really my favorite book, but it’s one of them for sure, and this scene in particular where Simon has his dialog with the Lord of the Flies is definitely one of my favorite scenes in a book ever.

PS: I know it’s perhaps silly that I didn’t draw any actual flies on my Lord of the Flies, but I was concerned that it might overwhelm the image, so I opted not to. I still might at some point, but I haven’t yet.
